ICARO (Innovative Cardboard ARchitectural Object) is a type of innovative building technology developed by working group at the University Catania, within framework EWAS (an Early WArning System for cultural heritage) research project. It represents tool used to combat climate change thanks high level sustainability its component. The modular component based on pre-fabricated panel vertical envelopes, consisting laminated wood frame that contains corrugated cardboard boxes. In order improve panel’s structural performance, pre-stress procedure has been adopted. cost-effective and boasts use lightweight, pre-cast, recycled, recyclable materials. This suitable construction micro-architecture in fragile contexts. test full-scale prototype called EP (Experience Pavilion) was built Megara Hyblea archaeological area Sicily, which chosen as site. A campaign be carried out currently being planned, will focus various issues. paper describes design prototype.
